Siphylus

Were you looking for information about Syphilis? Siphylus is a common misspelling of syphilis.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease that progresses in four different stages. It is caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum -- primarily through direct contact with syphilis sores. These sores, although not always present, can occur on the external genitals, anus, rectum, and mouth. Therefore, syphilis can be transmitted through anal, vaginal, and oral sex. There are four stages of progression, and without treatment, syphilis can ultimately lead to death. The most common treatment for the condition is the antibiotic penicillin.
